Want to make a difference with your life? Want to be equipped to work with young people in the future, whilst making an impact today? Taking a gap year? We are looking for 4 individuals to join our team as interns in September 2022.


As you volunteer for a year at the King’s Arms we will invest in training and supporting you to complete a Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice. This is a unique opportunity to obtain a qualification whilst gaining work experience and influencing young people’s lives. As part of the internship programme, you will develop your strengths and also have the opportunity to gain experience behind the scenes and get involved in other areas of the centre ie marketing, admin, finance, social media.

You will be someone who has a heart to see young people grow and be at their best, be good with people and preferably have some experience of working with 11-18 year olds. You will need to be 17-25, and have at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent.

To join the study programme you will need to demonstrate:

  • An ability to engage and work with young people as well as other adults in the team

  • A readiness to reflect on your experiences and learning

  • A commitment to others and to work for equal opportunities and justice for all

  • An ability to manage your workload and to work on your own initiative

Your programme will include:

  • A monthly supervision session and assessment reports to your college

  • A minimum of 15 hours face to face work per week with on the job training

  • Opportunities to work with young people under different areas of delivery – open access, schools work and targeted programmes

  • A full understanding of the behind the scenes work in a youth centre – to include administration, record keeping, returns, publicity, social media

  • Opportunities to use your current skill set and develop new skills

  • Time for study and assignments

  • Attendance at the weekly team meeting

Practical details:

  • The programme is 35 hours per week

  • This would be over 5 days per week and 2 evenings per week

  • Located either in Alton or Petersfield youth centres

  • 1st Sept 2022 - 31st July 2023

The King’s Arms is a Christian charity that supports young people. It is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and to support its organisational goals and ethos.  The role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check, two references and a successful interview process. 


Volunteers are so important to us at The King's Arms.  They help us to manage our budgets and provide a broad range of experiences that they can share with the young people we support.

Volunteers help us both face to face and behind the scenes by 

joining in with clubs, mentoring young people, fundraising, cleaning, driving, food prep, shopping, IT, admin and more.
