Volunteer Vacancies

description of role

What is required of the volunteer:

  • Our well-being group (Thrive) is about building self-esteem, resilience and motivation and providing the young people with a toolbox to combat anxiety.  As part of this team, you will help to create a welcoming atmosphere, offering and making drinks for everyone at the beginning of each session.

  • We’d like you to join in with the activities, games and topic of conversation, offering praise and encouragement to the young people.

  • Sometimes you will be asked to organise or lead crafts or activities.

  • At the end of the session, you will help to tidy up, load the dishwasher and feedback with the rest of the team anything you noticed during the session.

What will the volunteer gain in return?

  • You will be part of a dedicated, fun, team, making a difference to the lives of our young people.  You will feel a sense of fulfilment, whilst having fun.

  • You will have an induction to The King’s Arms family and reviews with Jen (Programme Manager for Alton Mentoring), to make sure you are happy and that the role is right for you.  We want our volunteers to be happy and feel valued.

description of the person

What skills the person would have:

  • As part of the mentoring team, we are after someone who is understanding and a good listener with a non-judgmental attitude.

  • You will be warm and friendly and open to sometimes playing silly games or challenges!   Due to the needs of the group, occasionally we have to alter the session plan at short notice, so we are looking for someone who is flexible.

  • You will also be dependable and consistent in attending the group and respect the confidentiality of group members.

What interests the volunteer might have:

  • You may be interested in well-being and resilience.

  • We would be interested if you have a particular interest in cooking or crafting or mindfulness as we would be able to include that into one of our sessions (if appropriate).
